Cyd Smith, Elkins Park School Counselor

Hi, I am Cyd Smith.  I have over 30 years of experience in the education of children.  The diversity of my experience ranges from counseling juvenile delinquents, providing emotional, social, and academic support to youths in a group home setting, developing and securing funding for after school enrichment programs, to School Counseling.  Prior to moving to Pennsylvania, I worked as a Middle School Counselor in North Carolina, held a board position for Communities in Schools, and worked on the Wake County School District dropout prevention task force. For the last 13 years, I have been a member of Cheltenham School District, where I spent the first eight years as a School Counselor at Cheltenham High School.  Since 2011, I have been a School Counselor at Elkins Park School.  I am formally trained in the Teaching-Family Model.  As such, I consider it an honor and privilege to work with children and their families.  My mission is to inspire, encourage, and assist all children in reaching their full academic and social potential.  Most emphatically, it is my personal belief that this is done through a team effort comprising of family, school, and community. This is the path that will enable us to support today’s youth.

Additionally, as a mother of three boys, I enjoy working with Leadership Academy,  an after school program for African American boys, which aims to eliminate the achievement gap.
