The Cheltenham High School Jazz Big Band is an advanced, audition-based ensemble that studies and performs a wide range of jazz music. The band has consistently performed in the Cavalcade of Bands circuit, and performs at many locations in the community and at regional festivals. In addition to the traditional big band format, the group also performs in small ensembles and combos where they learn more about improvisation and the jazz standards. With famous jazz alumni like Michael Brecker, Randy Brecker, Jeff Lorber, and Andy Snitzer, the Cheltenham Jazz Big Band continues a proud tradition of exceptional jazz musicianship and performances.

The band also focuses its talents in the jazz community. Both locally and abroad, the band performs for a plethora of audience members—from Cheltenham’s own Arts in the Park, to performing an extended concert for residents of Living Branches Retirement Community. In addition, the group recently reinstituted the Michael Brecker benefit concerts. Brecker, an alumnus of Cheltenham High School (Class of 1967) is honored with a tribute concert where the band performs alongside notable jazz musicians for a night that supports bone marrow research.
