Each year, Newsweek picks the best high schools in the country based on how hard school staffs work to challenge students with advanced placement college-level courses and tests. For their annual list, they scour the country, look at tens of thousands of high schools, and narrow their list to just over sixteen hundred. For 2010, Cheltenham High School has achieved a spot on this prestigious list, a fact about which we are all very proud.
In calling over to the High School Guidance Department to congratulate them for their good work, we learned that this great accomplishment needs to be shared among all CHS faculty. CHS Guidance Department Chairperson Pat Kohler was delighted to receive the call but felt that beyond the Guidance Department every teacher had some connection to this accomplishment. She said that those who teach ninth and tenth grade are always preparing students for the rigors of AP, while those who teach eleventh and twelfth grade are either teaching AP classes or providing support for students who are taking AP classes. This recognition is a validation of the fact that the School District of Cheltenham is truly what is good and right about American education today.
